The 4th year of the LVIS Audax will no doubt be forever remembered as 'The Cold One'. Amazingly the Siberian conditions weren't enough to put most of you off proving that we should never underestimate how appealing plentiful supplies of cake can be.
In the end we had 244 riders starting the 116km Barrys Bristol Bash with 196 completing the ride. A hardy band of 83 riders started the 214km Barrys Bristol Ball Buster with 59 toughing it out until the end. No doubt balls were not only busted but also frozen off brass monkeys. Well done, Barry would be well and truly proud of every single one of you.
Reports from out on the route included tales of frozen jockey wheels, bottom bracket icicles, regret for only wearing fingerless gloves and one poor chap with 5 successive punctures. The last rider on the road called at 10:45pm having just left Portbury, sadly too late to reach the finish control before it closed but he bravely pushed on to finish the ride regardless. Our expert photographer Ed Rollason was busy being driven around the countryside to capture the action and you can see a selection of his photos below.
Thanks to everyone who came, saw, rode and scoffed at the LVIS Audax 2012! It was a great day for it so the combination of sunshine, quiet lanes and some considerable WI catering made for a fantastic event.
